1. In a conversation with his advisors José Crispiniano and Ricardo Amaral on this Thursday, October 31, former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva expressed his repudiation at the authoritarian declarations made by Congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro (PSL-São Paulo) in favor of Brazil’s reinstating Institutional Act 5, which was the main tool of persecution used against opposition, labor unions and social movements during the military dictatorship (1964-1985). “Lula asked me to give the following message,” said Ricardo Amaral, “What Brazil needs is more democracy, not less. The President of the Republic and his sons need to respect the Brazilian people and respect everyone’s opinion.”

2. Lula took advantage of the visit form his advisors, the first since his birthday, to thank the Lula Livre Vigil for the big party on Sunday, October 27th. The message was transmitted to the activists by José Crispiniano. “He asked me to thank each one of you for his birthday party. He felt everyone’s affection and said that your perseverance has come at great sacrifice and bothers a lot of people.”

3. Lula is isolated from his family and friends, prohibited from exercising his political rights and traveling through the country he fought so much for. Held as a political prisoner for 572 days, he continues unbowed and determined in every new interview he gives. “I should frown when you ask a question like this, but what has happened in my life is hilarious… The monster has grabbed me and I’m laughing,” he said in an interview with journalists Marina Amaral and Thiago Domenici, from Agencia Publica on Wednesday, October 30th.
