Bulletin 622 – People’s Committee in Defense of Lula and Democracy
Straight from Curitiba – 11/4/2019 – 576 days of resistance – 20:20
1. The Lula Livre Vigil hosted several activities on this Monday, November 4th, that were organized by the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST). During the morning, in addition to the march which opens the daily resistance activities, the MST’s animation collective cheered up the activists with lost of music. Afterwards, the comrades from the countryside held a conversation circle about their experiences with eco-forestry and production of organic rice in Brazil. The MST is the largest producer of organic cereals in Latin America.
2. During the afternoon the theme of the conversation circle was “youth, tasks and predictions,” with the MST youth collective. Anyone who has visited the Lula Livre Vigil or accompanied the activities on the social media networks knows that the presence of youth at the Vigil has been very active, serving as incontestable proof that the activists’ base level organizing is in a state of constant renewal.
3. The Lula Livre shout has become a kind of mandatory ritual during concerts by the biggest names in Brazilian music. This weekend, Gilberto Gil’s show in Alagoas had so many shouts about the former President that the Bahian singer-songwriter stopped the show to speak out for freedom for Lula, who has been a political prisoner since April 7th, 2018.
4. The movement for freedom for Lula is gaining more and more international supporters, most of whom are publicly declaring their support and solidarity with the former President. Even with a busy schedule due to the Uruguayan presidential campaign, Daniel Martinez, from the Frente Ampla party, made a point of saying, during an interview, that he has “great admiration” and is “totally in sync with Lula”.
